Neutral Names

What is this?

This site uses Statistics Sweden's (SCB) All registered persons in Sweden – Given names dataset to calculate and rank the most "statistically gender-neutral" given names among registered persons in Sweden.

Names are ranked by how close they are to a perfect 50/50 split between female and male records.

As of 2022, when the data used in this site was last updated, name data is only provided by the SCB with binary gender classifiers, which is why those are the only two categories appearing here. Non-binary gender classifiers would be helpful information, but are not available.

Advanced search

The filter functionality also supports searching by regex. Regex mode is enabled by surrounding a query in slashes, like /this/.

Try it out by searching for /son$/, which shows names ending in -son.
